Frequently Asked Questions

Grain storage solutions for silos

Where do you position the Silo Vent unit on a Silo?

The best location is on top of the silo lid. The Silo Vent unit can be fitted directly onto the lid, allowing for normal access for the auger to fill the silo, it tilts with the opening of the silo lid.
If the top silo lid can’t be used, the Silo Vent Unit can come with a variable pitch so the unit can be positioned on the side of the silo roof.

How long will the Silo Vent unit last before the bearings wear out?

The Ventilators are a industrial grade unit manufactured in Australia and have 2 separate Stainless-Steel bearings in each ventilator.

Why not use an aerator to cool the grain?

The Silo Ventilation Systems products are designed to be used where there is no power source. If you have an aerator already on a silo, the Silo Vent Unit located at the top of the silo can help the aerator work more efficiently.

How does the Baffle unit work in Sealed Silos?

The Silo Vent units with the built in Baffle allow the silo to be sealed down for fumigation purposes via a cable to open and close the baffle from ground level.
Once the fumigation period has finished, the Baffle is opened and the Silo Vent exhausts the build up for chemical smell, heat and humidity out of the silo.

How many Silo Fumigation units required per silo?

For grain silos less than 50 tonnes: 1 unit is required.
For grain silos 50-120 tonnes: 2 units required.
For larger silos, please contact Silo Ventilation Systems Pty Ltd.
